LinuxSouls
I am going to try to regularily update this page more often and may even begin blogging atleast about some upcoming events that are Community Based (such as the Florida Local Ubuntu Community Group projects and events/outreaches) or about other things I feel deserve a little spotlight. In honor of this you will notice at the bottome of this main page that I have included links for BarCamp Orlando. I went to the one last September and it was a blast! I learned a whole lot. This group is doing serious things for the Development community, and it's a great opportunity to network with other like minded individuals. I am still leaving up my links to Linux Reality as it continues to be a great resource for beginning linux users to get their feet wet and gain some exposure to using linux in a way that only Chess can deliver.
I am still learning about L.A.M.P. and have begin learning more about php and shell scripting, so hopefully if you're checking my progress you will begin to see some cool things added to this page in the near future.
Temporary Blogging
Just wanted to spend a little bit of time to share with you a pretty cool game that I found out about tonight! Frets On Fire. This game is a lot more fun than you could ever imagine. I made the mistake when I first tried it of not following the tutorial and Man was that ever the wrong thing to do!
This game is very similar to Guitar Hero (at least from what I have seen on You Tube), but is much better than guitar hero in my opinion based on the fact that it was created with more than just one platform in mind. Linux and Mac users are able to partake in the festivities without having to force themselves to spend their hard earned cash on an xbox 360. Under linux it was very easy to download the files, extract them, cd into the extracted directory and run the game by simply typing ./FretsOnFire in a terminal. It has a kick butt tutorial that is both witty and entertaining, and you are even able to create your own songs that you can use and share with your friends.
Using Your IPOD with Linux Applications
There are many really cool applications out there that you can use with your IPOD under linux. My personal favorite is gtkpod, but there are more than one applications for managing your ipods with linux, in case you don't like the interface of gtkpod. Others programs like rythmbox, and
Amarok (which is more of a KDE application and requires kde-libs). Both are installable and usable in Gnome.
Here are some good how to guides that will help you get started: Go here for gtkpod, here for rythmbox, and last but not least amarok. These are guides are more for how to use the interface once the applications are installed. For further details on how to install them please see the documentation on each site.
64 Studio - Distribution Built with the Audio Aficianados in Mind!
I was asked about the ability to do mixing and recording of high quality audio projects under linux, after talking with some friends I have decided to recommend trying 64 Studio. This Distribution is really cool for several reasons, including the fact that although they are primarily a 64-bit distribution they still offer a legacy 32-bit version for download in both DVD form, and the increasingly popular LiveCD format.
Check out these 64 Studio Screenshots
